Lisa Strachan

Local Liberal Democrats are going for youth with their Scottish Parliament candidate. Rutherglen Constituency Liberal Democrats have announced the selection of 24 year old Lisa Strachan as their candidate for the constituency at the Scottish elections in May.

Lisa Strachan is an Honours Law graduate with a Master’s degree in Public and International law from the University of Glasgow. She currently works as a Research Assistant and Caseworker for George Lyon MEP, the Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for Scotland.

Lisa was born and brought up in the East End of Glasgow and educated at Bannerman High School in Baillieston. She is particularly committed to improving the life chances of young people, and previously worked as a pastoral care assistant at the Dance School of Scotland providing pastoral support to the children.

Lisa Strachan said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to take up the torch for the Liberal Democrats in Rutherglen, Cambuslang and Blantyre. It is an area with a long tradition of Liberal Democrat strength, based on campaigning for local people and local people have long been aware that the Liberal Democrats pose the only credible challenge to Labour in Rutherglen constituency."

"These are difficult financial times but my priority is to fight for better opportunities, in education, in skills, in jobs and in life for all our young people. As a young person myself, I know the problems many young people face in getting a job.

I look forward to fighting for the interests of all the people of this area in the Scottish Parliament.”

Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown said: “Lisa is a strong, articulate and able candidate for the Liberal Democrats in Rutherglen and will give Labour a run for their money. My sense is that the public are uninspired by the choice presented of either an obsession with breaking up the UK with the SNP or the grey lack of ambition of Labour. I think there is a real opportunity for the Liberal Democrats, who have now been tested in Government in both Edinburgh and London.”
