Landlords & Factors - Action Needed

Some areas of Cambuslang and Rutherglen have been badly affected by issues of inadequate or absentee landlords, poor factoring practices and anti social behaviour by other residents.

The Scottish Parliament has already passed new legislation to regulate the activity of landlords. It is now considering another Bill to tighten up the practices of property factors.

Cambuslang West Liberal Democrat Councillor David Baillie said: "I have had a number of complaints from local people about anti social behaviour by neighbours, and about factoring issues. This can be a significant problem in some privately owned blocks of flats where there has been an increase in houses bought or kept for rent. The current legislation is outdated and the private letting sector needs higher standards. Liberal Democrats have campaigned for, and support, these important changes."
