Snuff Mill Conservation Area

Councillor Margot Clark is keen to extend the boundaries of the Snuff Mill Conservation Area to take in a larger area. A Conservation Area is an area of special architectural or historical interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

Margot Clark said: “I am a great believer in preserving the areas of interest we are lucky enough to have in Cathcart. The current Conservation Area does not take in the Old Cathcart Cemetery area. The cemetery houses important items like the Covenanter’s Memorial Stone and the Clock Tower. It is essential that these are preserved for future generations. I am pressing the Council to consider my request.

“Simshill/ Old Cathcart Community Council have also recently secured funding to have floodlighting installed at the original Cathcart Old Clock Tower, in the cemetery opposite Cathcart Old Parish Church. This will be a great improvement to the area.”
