The council grubbed up mature trees where the pre-fabs once stood next to Hampden stadium. They did this without consulting residents or the local elected members – including me!
When I was contacted by local people I stopped the destruction going any further but by that time it was pretty complete. I got various excuses none of which stacked up (the trees weren’t sick, the area was not a mess, and the “Park and Ride” scheme consultation did not result in local people saying this was what they wanted!). I got the department to agree to a proper consultation, to plant some mature trees to replace the ones cut down, and to consult on Biodiversity. That meeting took place on the 1st of April in Tory Glen indoor football facility (just opposite the area gutted). Local residents turned up in large numbers and made their views known. I hope the council listened – watch this space. Also watch Hangingshaw place and let me know if their are any problems.
