SNP must act on Youth unemployment
In November this year the Liberal Democrats announced the Youth Contract a £1 Billion fund to tackle Youth Unemployment. THis will provide 410,000 new work places for 18 - 24 year olds. This has been designed to create new opportunities for those at risk of long term unemployment.
In addition this scheme will create new apprenticeships, provide additional support at the job centre and Wage Incentives. The DWP elements of this will take into affect accross the United Kingdom. However equivalent additional money is made available to Scotland.
Anniesland and Drumchapel Candidate Paul McGarry said: " These steps are much needed in the community. On the doorstep time and again the issue is raised of youth unemployment.
I am delighted that the Liberal Democrats have introduced this and provided the means to tackle youth unemployment at the root.
Paul added "I along with many others are concerned that the SNP has yet to take action on this and announce a like for like scheme in Scotland. Barnett Consequentials which is the equivalent sum of money, has been made available to the SNP and as of yet they have done nothing to tackle youth unemplyment.
It is a constant concern locally and the time to act is now. At present it seems that the SNP is too focused on an independance referendum and not tackling the issues that affect us daily.
