Annual Dinner success

The GGLD Dinner at the King's Park Hotel saw excellent speeches by Chris Hulne MP and our own Baillie Margot Clark, with a turnout of almost 100 and a good boost to the Scottish Parliament Fighting Fund.

The event took place almost years to the day since Margot on the famous King's Park by election.

Liberal Democrat boost at local by-election

Nicol

Local Liberal Democrat candidate Tunweer Malik gave the Party a huge boost with a dramatic 14% swing for from Labour in the Cambuslang East by- Election on March 6th.

The result was:

  • Labour 725 (27.95%) 2008 by election. 2403 (50.40%) in 2007

  • SNP 609 (23.4%) 2008 by-election. 1120 (23.49%) 2007

  • Liberal Democrats 580 (22.36%) 2008 by-election. 684 (14.34%) 2007

  • Conservatives 80 (3.08%) in 2008 by-election. 423 (8.8%) in 2007

Labour started with over 50% of the vote last May - only to see their vote share collapse by over 22%.

But the big losers of the night were the SNP. The by-election had been caused by the death of the sitting SNP Councillor, but they were only 29 votes short of being pipped into THIRD place by the Liberal Democrats.

Robert Brown MSP said: "Tunweer did a tremendous job for the Party. He blew away the SNP honeymoon and proved beyond doubt that Labour are hugely vulnerable when the next election eventually comes."
