Alan was born in Glasgow on June 29, 1982, at Glasgow's Queen Mother's Hospital. Alan now lives in Woodside with partner Ashley Queen. He has one younger brother Lawrence, mother Susan and his father Colin; is deceased. His mother is in the catering industry and runs her own business.

He has been an active member of Glasgow Maryhill, and Executive member, for several years.
