Councillor Alex Dingwall >>

Parents from Notre Dame Primary have been left confused and angry by news that the Labour Council have put a hold on plans to merge pupils from Notre Dame Primary with St Peter’s Primary and Anderston Nursery into a new super campus at Dowanhill.

Message from GNLD Convener

Posted in Glasgow North

In case you are surprised by the name at the end of this, Rosie Ilett had to step down because of pressure of work. Many thanks are due to her for everything she did during her tenure and, particularly, for seeing us through the General Election.

So I have taken over until the AGM. It feels a bit like having come full circle as, if I remember correctly, my first official role in a local party was much the same – only in those days it was Maryhill and we were simply the Liberal Party. That will give you some clue as to how long ago it must have been and actually it was considerably more than that.

Great news from Cleveden Community Club and I’d just want to pay tribute to my fellow Liberal Democrat ward councillor, Mary Paris, for the tremendous work she has done on this.

The Cleveden Community Club (CCC) was started by Kelvindale residents who recognised the limited opportunities for sporting activity within the Kelvindale community.  The CCC pilot was supported by

Land and Environmental Services have confirmed that Burnhouse Street, Winton Drive, Fairhaven Road and Cleveden Drive are now part of the second phase of road repairs and resurfacing in the Maryhill/Kelvin ward. I’ve had lots of feedback on the poor state of roads and pavements in the ward  so glad to see that, allowing the Labour Council don’t cut funding, the

Common Sense for our Transport

Posted in Alex Dingwall

{jcomments on}Parents in Cadder were relieved by the news that Education Services have accepted Councillor Alex Dingwall’s concerns over Labour’s home to school transport review which changed the distance at which pupils received free bus travel. Parents had raised concerns that the ‘safe route’ to Cleveden Secondary referred to by Education officials would have seen pupils have to walk underneath the Forth and Clyde canal bridge at Lochburn Road where the footway is extremely narrow .

Concerns were raised over the heavy traffic on the road, the poor lighting, the flooding of the path under the bridge and general safety issues. Following Councillor Dingwall’s intervention Education Services have advised that “In view of the current safety issues highlighted, and until future improvements to pedestrian safety has been addressed, it has been decided to award home to school transport on safety grounds to those pupils who would require to negotiate Lochburn Road on route to Cleveden Secondary School.”

New Community Centre Opens in Wyndford

Posted in Mary Paris

Councillors Mary Paris and Alex Dingwall were  on hand on Saturday 17th July 2010 for the official opening of the new community centre in Wyndford. The new centre opened in the former Wyndford and St Gregory’s Primaries which the City’s Labour administration closed last year in the face of fierce community opposition.

The new centre will provide sports and fitness facilities, a learning centre, computer gaming areas, a stage and café. The centre is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9.15am to 9.30pm. While still wanting to see a new local school built in Wyndford the Councillors were delighted to see the vacant buildings  being turned into a new community resource and Councillor Paris was quick to secure space for a local surgery in the building.
