Murdoch support for Salmond nothing to do with what is best for Scotland

Commenting as Rupert Murdoch confirms to the Leveson Inquiry that he directed the Sun and the Sun on Sunday to take a favourable editorial approach towards the SNP, Liberal Democrat MSP Tavish Scott said:

Murdoch support for Salmond nothing to do with what is best for Scotland“This says all you need to know about the relationship between Alex Salmond and Rupert Murdoch.

“The decision of the Sun to back the SNP and Mr Salmond’s decision to forget the victims of phone hacking and stick up for Murdoch in an editorial in the new Sun on Sunday was arranged after cosy dinners and tickets to Broadway shows.

“It has nothing to do with what is best for Scotland. Mr Murdoch himself has said that he knows very little about the SNP.

“Mr Salmond was seeking political support from the disgraced media mogul. What we don’t know yet is what Scotland’s First Minister offered in return.

“He has chosen to run to London today instead of turning up to face serious question from MSPs. Even Jeremy Hunt had the courage to make a statement to Westminster today.

“Scotland deserves better.”
