Votes and voices will direct the Party's future

In the Liberal Democrats, ordinary members have a real say in determining the Party's policy and direction. There is a leadership election this summer - in which every member has a vote of equal value - and we're encouraging all members to get involved. If you want to vote or are interested in finding out more, here's how you can get involved.

It would be an understatement to say that the General Election did not deliver the result that Liberal Democrats were hoping for. With a Conservative-only government at Westminster and a diminished Liberal Democrat presence in the Commons, there is a lot of work to do to stand up for liberal and social democratic values. Fortunately, the Party has lots of new members - over 30% increase since Polling Day. Liberal Democrats are determined to campaign with renewed focus.

Remember, if you want to vote but are not yet a member, make sure you join before 4pm on the 3rd of June

Every member in Scotland also gets voting rights at Scottish Conference which meets twice a year to determine policy and organisation and hold elected officers to account. A similar system will soon also apply to the UK-wide Federal Conference. In the meantime, any member can be selected by his or her Local Party (or Liberal Youth if appropriate) as a Conference Representative. The good news is that, with increasing membership, Local Parties are each entitled to more Representatives, so it is easy to get involved. Members in Glasgow have been instrumental in drafting and developing many policies over the years and we hope to continue to do so, calling on interest and expertise from all walks of life.

Members are advised to check their emails for details of upcoming hustings meetings and policy discussions as we set our priorities for the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections and beyond.
