Daniel Khan-O'Malley and the Glasgow Liberal Democrats have made a statement after the fire which took place in the Union Corner building which has resulted in considerable damage to the building and the closure of Glasgow Central Station.

While the station's low level platforms should reopen from the 11th March, the upper levels are due to be out for at least the rest of the week as safety checks on the station continue.

Daniel Khan-O'Malley said:

"Thank you to the firefighters and emergency crews who worked through the night to keep people safe. The loss of this historic Glasgow building is devastating, and our thoughts are with the small businesses who have lost everything.

"We must await a full and thorough investigation. However, if the fire began in a vape shop, both governments must urgently review safety standards.

“Glasgow is already pulling together, with local salons and studios offering space to those displaced. We now need clear support from the council, and clear guidance from the Scottish Government and ScotRail on the next steps.”
