Do you live in a tenement?

Under One Roof is an organisation transforming how Scots upgrade, repair, and adopt renewable energy systems into their tenements. This fantastic charity provides free and impartial information on issues related to tenement maintenance, common repair management, retrofit and environmental sustainability.

These are the kinds of eco-friendly changes the Lib Dems want to see happening in Glasgow's West End. If you'd like expert guidance on improving the energy efficiency of your flat, installing solar panels, or implementing green technology in your tenement building, go to underoneroof.scot/ask-an-expert or get in touch with your local Lib Dem team at info@glasgowlibdems.org.uk.

Council Underfunding Crisis

Glasgow City Council, run by the SNP and Greens, faces a £110 million shortfall in its budget for the next three years following £38 million overspend last year. Insufficient funding form the SNP-led Scottish Government has put increasing strain on the council's ability to deliver key services.

Without funding increases from the Scottish Government, there is a risk of further council tax rises and cuts to services from education, to health and social care, to culture.

From his work in the charity sector Daniel led national policy and advocacy work for major charities. Through his work he has challenged cruel government policies towards people seeking protection and stands up to far-right politics. He has pressed the Scottish and UK Governments, given evidence in Parliament and continues to campaign for fair, humane, and compassionate asylum policies reflecting Glaswegian values.

Tackling Rubbish, Rats and Flytipping in the West End

The Glasgow City Council budget that passed for this year included £7m for cleansing services, which includes approximately 70 extra staff to deal with fly tipping, litter and weeds. Mor importantly for residents we've spoken to that have raised concerns about vermin, there will be five extra pest control workers.

This investment at the last budget is an attempt by the SNP and Greens who run the council to tackle problems they created in the first place. It goes nowhere near far enough to redress the damage. The budget was passed in February and still problems are persisting.

If you, your close or back court are affected by rubbish and flytipping, please let us know.

Glasgow University's Campus Expansion

Following the acquisition of the former Western Infirmary site, Glasgow University began a 17 year campus expansion back in 2017. This project, called the Gilmorehill Masterplan, is contained within Church Street, Argyle Street and University Avenue.

The project, which is huge in scope, could be transformative for the lower part of Byres Road and Argyle Street. The masterplan aims to connect the surrounding neighbourhoods to the west and to Kelvingrove Park. At present the £300m Keystone Building aon St Mungo Square is currently under construction and due to be completed in 2028.
